The Oven Does Not Reach the Desired Temperature: Causes & Solutions

Is your Alfa oven not reaching the desired temperature? Discover possible causes and solutions for wood-fired, gas, and electric ovens to restore performance.

If your Alfa oven is not reaching the desired temperature, the causes may vary depending on the model (wood-fired, gas, or electric). Below are the possible causes and solutions to restore proper oven functionality.

1️⃣ Wood-Fired Ovens: Why Isn't the Oven Heating Up?

✔️ Common Causes:

1️⃣ Wet or Low-Quality Firewood
✔ If the firewood has more than 20% moisture, it will burn poorly and generate less heat.
✔ Use well-seasoned hardwood (beech, oak, olive) for optimal combustion.

2️⃣ Insufficient Firewood
✔ When lighting the fire, use plenty of small, dry wood to quickly build a solid ember base.
✔ After about 15 minutes, add larger pieces of wood to maintain a stable temperature.

3️⃣ Incorrect Fire Management
✔ Position the fire on one side of the oven and use a wood holder to maintain a strong and well-oxygenated flame.
✔ Avoid completely closing the door – proper airflow is essential for combustion.

4️⃣ Blocked or Poorly Adjusted Chimney
✔ Ensure the chimney is clear of obstructions (nests, soot buildup).
✔ If you have extended the chimney, consider installing a butterfly valve to regulate airflow.

2️⃣ Gas Ovens: Problems & Solutions

✔️ Common Causes:

1️⃣ Low Gas Level or Incorrect Regulator
✔ If the gas level is low, the burner may not generate enough heat.
✔ Ensure the gas cylinder is full and the pressure regulator is Alfa-recommended (🔗 Gas Connector Alfa).

2️⃣ Bent or Blocked Gas Hose
✔ Check that the gas hose is not bent or compressed, which could limit fuel flow.
✔ Ensure the connection between the regulator and the oven is properly secured.

3️⃣ Incorrect Burner Adjustment
✔ If the flame is too small or unstable, clean the burner nozzles to remove any impurities.
✔ If connected to a natural gas home supply, ensure other appliances (e.g., boiler) are not reducing gas pressure to the oven.

4️⃣ Strong Wind Extinguishing the Flame
✔ If using the oven in a windy area, strong gusts may disrupt the flame.
✔ Place the oven in a sheltered area or use a wind guard to protect the burner.

3️⃣ Electric Ovens (URBE): Why Isn’t It Reaching Temperature?

✔️ Common Causes:

1️⃣ First Use: Break-in Required
✔ If using the URBE oven for the first time, it may take longer to stabilize.
✔ Heat it for at least 60 minutes at 300°C to allow the heating elements to break in.

2️⃣ Insufficient Electrical Voltage
✔ Ensure the power outlet provides sufficient voltage and avoid using an unsuitable extension cord.
✔ Check that the household electrical system is not overloaded with other high-power appliances.

3️⃣ Dirty or Damaged Heating Elements
✔ If the oven takes too long to heat up, there may be residue buildup on the heating elements.
✔ Clean them with a dry cloth to remove any impurities.

4️⃣ Environmental Conditions Affecting Oven Heating

🌡 Very Low External Temperatures
✔ In winter or freezing temperatures, the oven may take longer to reach the ideal temperature.
✔ Preheat the oven with extra fuel (more wood or gas) to compensate for heat loss.

💨 Strong Wind or Drafts
✔ Wind can cool the oven more quickly or disrupt the flame in gas ovens.
✔ Place the oven in a partially sheltered area and ensure the chimney has proper draft control.

5️⃣ Final Checks & Support

Checked everything but the oven still doesn’t heat up?

📌 Gas Ovens: Check the gas pressure and ensure there are no leaks.
📌 Wood-Fired Ovens: Make sure you’re using properly seasoned wood and managing the fire correctly.
📌 Electric Ovens: Verify that the electrical system is adequate and that the heating elements are working properly.
