# How Does the EVO Digital Thermometer Work and How Do You Connect It to the ToGrill App?

## Discover how to use the Alfa Forni EVO digital thermometer, monitor cooking chamber, refractory cooking floor and food temperatures, connect your smartphone via Bluetooth and set customized alerts using the ToGrill app.

### 🌡️ How Does the EVO Digital Thermometer Work?

EVO features a **digital thermometer integrated into the front panel**, designed to provide comprehensive monitoring of the main temperatures during cooking.

The device allows you to monitor three different temperatures:

- **Cooking chamber temperature:** indicates the heat inside the oven.
- **Refractory cooking floor temperature:** allows you to check the temperature of the surface on which food is placed.
- **Food probe temperature:** measures the internal temperature of food when the dedicated probe is used.

The thermometer displays temperatures directly on its screen and, thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, also allows you to monitor them from your smartphone using the ToGrill app.

This system provides greater control when baking pizza and preparing other dishes, including bread, roasts, meat and vegetables.

### 🎛️ What Are the Buttons on the EVO Digital Thermometer?

The EVO digital thermometer features three main controls:

| Button | Function |
| --- | --- |
| **ON/OFF** | Turns the device on and off. |
| **MODE** | Allows you to select the temperature displayed and change the temperature unit. |
| **PIEZO** | Activates the ignition spark for the gas burner. |

**How to use the MODE button**

- **Short press:** switches between the different temperature readings on the display.
- **Press and hold for approximately 3 seconds:** switches the temperature unit between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).

**How to use the PIEZO button**

The PIEZO button generates the spark required to ignite the gas burner.

To light the burner, follow the procedure described in the user manual, using the gas control knob and PIEZO button together.

📌 **Important:** The PIEZO button is used to ignite the burner. It does not control the temperature or Bluetooth connection.

### 📊 How Are Temperatures Displayed on the EVO Screen?

The thermometer features two temperature display systems:

- **Digital reading:** numerically displays the selected temperature.
- **Analog arc indicator:** graphically displays the cooking chamber and refractory cooking floor temperatures.

The analog indicator consists of two arcs:

- **Outer arc:** represents the cooking chamber temperature.
- **Inner arc:** represents the refractory cooking floor temperature.

The display also includes additional information icons:

- **Bluetooth:** indicates when the Bluetooth module is active.
- **Battery:** displays the remaining battery level.

The combination of numerical readings and analog indicators makes it easier to monitor the oven's thermal performance during preheating and cooking.

### 🍖 How Do You Use the EVO Food Probe?

EVO comes with a **food temperature probe**, designed to measure the internal temperature of food during cooking.

The probe is particularly useful for:

- Roasts.
- Meat.
- Dishes requiring internal temperature monitoring.
- Other recipes where checking the core temperature of the food is important.

**How to connect the food probe**

1. Insert the probe's jack connector into the dedicated socket located on the underside of the digital thermometer.
2. Insert the probe into the food you want to monitor.
3. Briefly press the **MODE** button until the food probe temperature is selected.
4. Check the temperature shown on the display.

The probe allows you to monitor the internal temperature of the food, which is different from the cooking chamber temperature.

This is particularly useful for dishes requiring precise control over the degree of cooking.

### 📱 Can EVO Be Connected to a Smartphone?

Yes. The EVO digital thermometer features **Bluetooth connectivity** and is compatible with the **ToGrill app**.

The app allows you to monitor oven temperatures directly from your smartphone.

With ToGrill, you can:

- View the cooking chamber temperature.
- Monitor the refractory cooking floor temperature.
- Check the food probe temperature.
- Set customized alerts for reaching specific temperatures.
- Receive notifications when a temperature rises above or falls below predefined limits.

Bluetooth connectivity therefore allows you to check temperatures without constantly looking at the oven's display.

📌 **Important:** The ToGrill app is designed for temperature monitoring. The EVO burner flame is adjusted manually using the gas control knob.

### 🔗 How Do You Connect the EVO Thermometer to the ToGrill App?

The ToGrill app is available for iOS and Android devices through the **App Store and Google Play**.

To connect the thermometer to your smartphone:

1. **Download and install the ToGrill app** on your smartphone.
2. **Enable Bluetooth** on your phone.
3. Open the ToGrill app.
4. **Scan the QR code on the EVO thermometer.**
5. Follow the instructions in the app, which will prompt you to turn on the device.
6. Once the connection has been established, access the app's main screen.
7. **Select your ALFA device** to display its temperature readings.

Once connected, ToGrill allows you to monitor the oven's three main temperatures in real time.

**Important:** The thermometer must be switched on and correctly powered by its batteries to use the Bluetooth connection.

### 🔔 How Do You Set Temperature Alerts in the ToGrill App?

The ToGrill app allows you to configure customized alerts to monitor temperatures while using the oven.

Two main types of alerts are available.

**1. Target temperature alert**

You can set a target temperature.

When the selected temperature is reached, the app sends a notification to your smartphone.

This feature is useful, for example, to know when the oven has reached the desired temperature before you start cooking.

**2. Temperature range alert**

You can set:

- **A minimum temperature**, below which you want to receive a notification.
- **A maximum temperature**, above which you want to receive a notification.

This type of alert allows you to monitor whether the temperature remains within a predefined range.

Temperature alerts are particularly useful during longer cooking sessions, when it is important to keep track of temperature changes.

### 🔋 What Batteries Does the EVO Thermometer Use and How Do You Replace Them?

The EVO digital thermometer is powered by **4 × 1.5 V batteries**.

To install or replace them:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Unscrew the screw securing the battery compartment cover.
3. Open the battery compartment.
4. Insert the **4 × 1.5 V batteries**, following the polarity markings inside the compartment.
5. Close the cover and tighten the screw.
6. Turn on the thermometer and check that it operates correctly.

The display includes a dedicated icon showing the battery level.

**Important:** If the device will not be used for an extended period, the user manual recommends removing the batteries to prevent electrolyte leakage, which could affect the thermometer's operation.

### 💤 How Does the EVO Thermometer's Standby Mode Work?

The EVO thermometer features a **standby mode**, designed to manage display operation and battery consumption.

This mode can be disabled through the ToGrill app settings.

When standby mode is disabled:

- The display remains active for longer.
- Temperature readings can be viewed more immediately.
- Battery consumption increases.

📌 **Tip:** If you do not need the display to remain active for longer periods, keep in mind that disabling standby mode increases power consumption.

### 🧲 Can the EVO Digital Thermometer Be Removed from the Oven?

Yes. The EVO digital thermometer is removable and is held in place by a **magnetic mounting system**.

To install it, insert the thermometer into its dedicated recess in the oven, ensuring it is correctly oriented, and push it into position until the retaining magnets engage.

This design allows the device to be removed when not in use and stored in a more protected environment.

The EVO user manual recommends that you:

- **Do not leave the thermometer exposed to rain or moisture.**
- **Remove the device from its housing when it is not in use.**
- **Store it in a dry place.**
- Remove the batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.

Before removing or handling the device, make sure the surrounding oven components are not hot.

### ⚠️ What Should You Do If the EVO Thermometer Does Not Work or Connect to the App?

If the thermometer does not turn on or display temperatures correctly, first check that:

- The batteries are correctly installed.
- Battery polarity has been respected.
- The batteries have sufficient charge.
- The device is switched on.

If the thermometer does not connect to the ToGrill app, check that:

- Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
- The thermometer is switched on.
- The QR code connection procedure has been followed correctly.
- The ALFA device has been selected in the app.

If the problem persists, contact Alfa Forni customer support for assistance.

Do not attempt to modify the thermometer's electronic components.
